Distortion control of high-strength steel parts by high-pressure gas quench
18CrNiMo parts quenched in 10 bar nitrogen instead of oil: hardness HRC 48–51 across the charge, distortion down from 0.45 mm to 0.12 mm.

Wall thickness varies 1:6 across the part; the oil-quench route gave scattered distortion and 35% of total machining hours were spent on correction.
The JVGQ-126/7261 furnace delivers an equivalent severity of 4.5 bar/s with 10 bar nitrogen and reversible fans, combined with stepped austenitising and optimised loading orientation.
Five-point thermocouples interlock with inverter fans; recipes are recalled per material grade, and batch consistency is verified by spectrographic and hardness checks.
Results
Distortion 0.45 → 0.12 mm, machining hours down 62%, straightening removed, saving roughly ¥1.8 million a year.
